Touchling 2

Sandstone, adhesive

I found this stone many years ago in North Devon. I was fascinated by the rough surface, the lines in them and the sculptural shape the sea had managed to reveal. After a few years lying by my pond, though, the stone started to disintegrate through frost and humidity, just like the mountains of Scotland. I preserved all the small pieces which had fallen away and had the urge to restore it again to its sculptural holistic shape, a symbol of nature and nurture. It now lives indoors and wears the scars of evolution with pride.
