Wave
Ship’s timber draped with kelp, supported on rusty nails to a plinth of weathered driftwood
This piece was so self-sufficient and confident in its sculptural appeal that I did not want to interfere with it. The rough wooden texture with the grooves of the grain and the man-made hole on the side showed the power of the natural world and so did the actual large curvy wave. The rustic base and the nails formed a harmonious support for the big block shape. Finding the black kelp on the beach in Achiltibuie helped to set off the bulky golden shape of the wave through the fragility of the black dried kelp.
