Driftwood from Achiltibuie and Culnacraig, heather from the craggy slopes of Benmore Coigach, dark flat periwinkle shells from Polglass.

I set out to make a bird, inspired by bird sculptures of other artists.  Piece by piece I found each of the components in my collection.  The head suggested a flamingo, which determined the sort of bird it was to become and the neck and legs had to follow to match. The eyes are two dark coloured periwinkle shells, the spirals of which are ‘looking at you’.  This flamingo is now beautifully bending its neck and wading through the waters with his right leg taking the next step.  In a more recent update of the sculpture it rests on an oversized round sandstone base.
