Sunrise
Hard driftwood (possibly Walnut), fishing net, lichen, scallop shells and coral
This sculpture is the first one where the wood made me want to polish areas to show its beauty. It took a long time and sanding and oiling to get the beautifully polished areas. They are in contrast to the rougher and greyer areas which hold the net and the shells which are emerging from cracks in the main body. The net grows out of the wood, like the lichen is growing on the net. It has been there for a long time and it is showing its colour in all its glory; warm and uplifting, like a sunrise, also symbolised by the warm pink shell.
