Soaring 2

Driftwood, oyster shells, ceramic egg

When I handled this piece for the first time it immediately evoked the flight of a bird in my imagination, like a swan lifting itself out of a lake to fly. The indentation on the head part required a rounded shape and the egg provided the perfect combination for me as it also addressed my question: which came first, the egg or the bird?

The wings made out of oyster shells were found on a very memorable trip with my friend Lucy to the south coast. We had made ourselves independent of our homes and families and felt like we were spreading our wings.
