Driftwood, black granite stone shaped by a Tertiary sea, nail and chain, small coral pebble
This piece of wood had obviously been subjected to growing between flat stones, and nature had triumphed by sidestepping a little. When I found the right size and weight plinth (which was an old fence post from my friend Alison) it revealed the ring pattern which looked like ripples in water. The sculptural shape of the branches now cradles the pebble which is falling into the ‘water’. The rusty nail is fixing the piece and symbolises the force the wood had to get through, whilst the old chain leads your eye back to the large round pebble.
