Wave 2

Cockle shells, flint

This sculpture is a follow-up from Wave 1 which I gifted to a good friend of mine. The cockle shells are happily sitting in each other but are, when compared to Wave 1, leaning lightly over and forming a spiral.  Like the earth moves in one direction, so does this wave because the shells are not completely symmetrical. The top shell is home to a tan brown pebble which nestles perfectly in the hollow. It is a little miracle of nature that all the shells fit so perfectly together. The sculpture is deliberately loose on its base, so that it can be held in the hands and its tactile qualities enjoyed as well.
